The School System in India

How that works out of the school system in India details, including the type of education is available...

According to the law of the right to education in 2009, education is free and compulsory for all children between the ages of 6 to 14. However, slow improvements being implemented and disadvantaged groups may not have appropriate access to educational attainment.



The high value placed on education, it also ensures a stable future. All parents want their children to attend the best English private schools, but places are limited. Thus, the admissions process is highly competitive.


Most Indian schools have a strong focus on academic subjects, with small-scale creativity and little or no extra-curricular activities. Traditional teaching methods tend to focus on rote, rather than encourage independent or creative thinking. There is a strong emphasis on examinations from an early age. This is what makes the atmosphere in the Indian competitive schools.



Many expats prefer to send their children to international schools. Others School selects India's most progressive that are less conventional teaching style.


The Education System

Pre-school:  Education at this level is not mandatory. Montessori system is especially in the pre-school popularity.
Private play-schools:  Catering for children aged between 18 months and three years.
Kindergarten:  This is divided into a decrease in kindergarten (for three to aged four years) children and upper kindergarten (for four to five year olds)
Primary school:  First to fifth standard/class/grade (for six to ten year olds)
Middle school:  Fifth to eighth standard/class/grade (for 11 to 14 year olds)
Secondary school:  Ninth and tenth standard/class/grade (for 14 to 16 year olds)
Higher secondary or pre-university:  11th and 12th standard/class/grade (for 16 to 17 year olds). This is when students choose an academic area on which to focus.
Graduation : A BA is a three-year degree. Specialised courses such as medicine and engineering can be longer.
Postgraduate: Two year course.

Types of Schools

Public/Government schools: Most of the schools in India which are run by government funding. However, the public education system is facing serious challenges, including the lack of adequate infrastructure, inadequate funding, lack of facilities and staff scarce.

Private schools: Since many public schools do not provide adequate education, Indian parents aspire to send their children to private schools. Some expats choose to send their children to private schools Indian.

International schools: There are international schools in all the major cities. And attended by expatriates and Indian  children.

National open schools: Providing education up to higher secondary stage for children who have been cut off education and were unable to complete a formal education.

Special-needs schools:  Providing education and vocational training is the official for children with disabilities.

Thiruvalluvar University



Thiruvalluvar University was established in the failure by the Government of Tamil Nadu in October 2002 under the Thiruvalluvar University Act 2002 (Government of Tamil Nadu Law 32/2002). Formed Counseling Graduate Center of the University of Madras, which functioned in Vellore in 2002 by the nucleus of Thiruvalluvar University. University opened on 10.16.2002 as the State University of our Prime Ministe DR. J. Jayalalitha. The University is located on the campus extends from approximately 112.68 acres in Serkkadu near Vallimalai about sixteen kilometers from the city of Vellore on the trunk road Ranipet- Chittoor. The University named after the great Tamil Saint "Thiruvalluvar"is enshrined with the motto "கண்ணுடைய ரென்பவர் கற்றோர்".

At the university, and are harnessing every possible effort to make the educational institution as a temple of learning. The aim of the university is to provide facilities for the progress in the research and dissemination of knowledge with a focus on raising the economic and social level of society.

DEPARTMENT AND EXTENSION CENTER OF THE UNIVERSITY

The Thiruvalluvar University seven sections, Tamil, English, economics, zoology, chemistry, mathematics, biotechnology. Belongs 98 Arts and the Faculty of Science of the university, including 10 government arts and scientific colleges, and with the help of nine arts and scientific colleges 3 are oriental title colleges, 72 is the Arts and Science of self-financing colleges and the remaining four are foundational University colleges. The extension of the center after graduation from this / university works in Villupuram.

The Thiruvalluvar Foundation Distance Education (TIDE) of Thiruvalluvar University came into existence from the academic year 2011-12.

VELS University



Vel's Educational Trust was founded confidence of Education in 1992 in order to transfer the individual to a perfect man with the personality and the ability of committed service and national development. He imagines the University which will be more competitive on a global scale and an internationally recognized institution.

The University by the Board of Directors or commonly known as the Board of Directors, and this is the highest legal body in this university. And directs the members of this Council from the various agencies. The council includes members representing the UGC, Govt. India, industry and prominent personalities from the academic side, people senior academic and senior officials at the university. President / Chancellor is the Chairman of the Board and the Board meets periodically to policies and programs, the framework for the growth and improvement of VISTAS.

Karpagam University


The  Karpagam Academy of Higher Education Academy (KAHE) established under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission in 1956 by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Government of India Act.  Dr. R. Sri Avinashilingam Home Science College for Women



Sri Avinashilingam Home Science College for Women was founded by a great patriot and educationist Dr. T.S. Avinashilingam under the auspices of Avinashilingam Education Trust in 1957 with 45 students. Enterprise growth was fueled carefully present heights by world famous and nutrition educator, a former adviser to Dr. Rajammal P. Devadas university. It is now the largest institution in the country to make major science education at all levels. It was one of the eight colleges that had been granted autonomy by the University of Madras in June 1978, and the first women's college to get this discrimination. It gave autonomy in the domain for the academic freedom of innovations in the field of teaching and research.

The Government of India announced, Sri Avinashilingam  Home Science College for Women and the Sri Avinashilingam teacher college for womens as considered as a Deemed University under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act in June 1988. It has been renamed as as Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women and functioning  towards the twenty-fifth year as a University. Dr. T.S.K. Meenakshisundaram has assumed the chancellorship on 12/02/2010. He is a follower of the founder president Dr. T.S. Avinashilingam Ayya Avargal.

University follows the educational ideals of the Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Saradamani Devi, Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi's life and upholds the purity and discipline and service. Temple dedicated to Sri Ramakrishna commands the campus. Daily prayer is an integral part of campus life part. It is expected to take part in joint prayers for all students and staff.

Education has been the pattern semesterised completely. The school year is divided into two semesters, each semester and there are no less than 90 days teaching. It provides pattern semester for each student special attention from the teacher and facilitate the overall development of the student. And calls for effective participation of students in the learning process to participate.

Regular attendance is an important feature of a pattern semester attributes. In all the programs, the student must be at least 75 percent attendance for both theoretical and practical to appear for exams semester comprehensive. University of Madras

The Public petition dated 11/11/1839 initiated the establishment of the University of Madras. It was in January 1840 with Mr.George Norton as its President, the Council of the League had been formed. In 1854 after a lapse of 14 years, the Government of India has developed a systematic educational policy for India and this sequel to the 5TH September 1857 by an Act of the Legislative Council of India, was established at the university. University organized in the model of the University of London. Madras University is the mother of the ancient universities, almost all of southern India. It may be limited to the State University area of three districts of Tamil Nadu state in recent years. This is the consequences of the establishment of many universities in the state and the demarcation of the land the university. This university has been growing from strength to strength with the expansion of educational and research activities.

University imparts both in the Post and under graduate education through affiliated institutions they are distributed to the regions of Chennai, Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram. Assam Don Bosco University



University of Don Bosco is a project of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) implemented by the Society of Don Bosco, Azarh, Guwahati. At present, Salesians working in 132 countries food for more than nine million young people around the world. Salesians have been recognized by the Government of India as one the largest provider of technical education in India, second only to the government. It was created more than 100 Salesian technical schools and 25 colleges in India. Rajiv Gandhi University



Rajiv Gandhi University (formerly Arunachal University) is the leading institution of higher education in the state of Arunachal Pradesh and completed twenty-five years of existence. Late Smt. Indira Gandhi, the Prime Minister of India, the foundation stone of the university in February 4th 1984 in Rono Hills, where the current campus is located. Since its inception, it has been the university is seeking to achieve excellence and achieve goals as envisaged in the University Act. The university got the University Academic recognition under section 2 (f) of the UGC in March 28th, 1985 and running from April 1, 1985. It's got a financial recognition under Article 12B of UGC in the 25th March 1994. Since then Rajiv Gandhi University and then the University of Arunachal has carved a niche for itself in the prestigious educational scenario of the country following selected for the University, with the possibility of excellence by a committee of high-level experts UGC among universities in India.

The university has been transferred to the Central University from April 9th 2007 in the notification of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. University site Rono Hills summit on the tableland of 302 acres overlooking the river Dikrong. It is 6.5 km from National Highway 52 A and 25 km from Itanagar, the capital of the state. And it is linked to the campus with the National Highway through Dakrong Bridge.

The educational and research programs of the university is designed to play a positive role in the social, economic and cultural development of the state. The university offers under graduate, and graduate M. Phil and PhD programs. It also provides the Ministry of Education B.Ed.  programme.

There are fifteen of the University colleges. The University provide educational facilities for students from neighboring states, especially Assam. The strength of the students in the different departments of the University and its affiliated colleges steadily.

Actively engaged faculty members in research activities with financial support from UGC and other funding agencies. Since its establishment, it has been punished a number of proposals for research projects from various funding agencies for the University. A number of seminars, workshops and conferences organized administrations. Many faculty members at national and international conferences and seminars that take place inside and outside the country participated. Eminent scientists and prominent university figures have visited and give lectures in various disciplines. The academic year 2000-2001 years of the unification of the University. Anna University



Anna University was established on September 4th, 1978 as a unitary type. And it offers higher education in engineering science and technology, allied with the relevant current and projected needs of the society. Besides promoting research and disseminating knowledge gained from it, they strengthen the cooperation between academia and industry. The university has formed by combining technical integration of the two institutions known in the city of Madras.

Located in the southern part of the city of Madras (Chennai), the main campus of the University extends over 100 hectares of land adjacent to the river monasteries in the north and the south Raj Bhavan. The Madras Institute of Technology in Chrompet  form of the second campus of the University, which runs on 20 hectares. Both campuses have a variety of buildings that serve the different needs of the university community. The third campus is spread over 80 hectares in Taramani near Instronic campus, Adyar. Laboratory biological processes donated by SPIC at the present time in this campus and a few of the most advanced research centers located, like National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Sugar Research Institute, Mechatronics Institute, Entreprenuership Development Park, and will also includes a conference center there in the future.

Since December 2001, it has become a large, well-known of the University, after being brought into the ranks of about 426 self-financing engineering colleges six government colleges and three engineering colleges with the help of the government are located in different areas of the state of Tamil Nadu.


Bharathiar University


Bharathiar University was established in Coimbatore by the Government of Tamil Nadu in February, 1982 under the provisions of Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Act No. 1 of 1982).  Postgraduate Center of the University of Madras, which functioned in Coimbatore before 1982 formed the core of the University of Bharathiar. In May, 1985 University received recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi for the purpose of grants.

University of toxicity of the great national poet Subramania dedicated Baharatne with the slogan “Educate to Elevate”.  At the university, and to harness every possible effort to achieve his dream of making the educational institutions and the Temple of learning. Jawaharlal Nehru University

Students abroad accounts for about 10 percent of the annual intake. Interspersed students houses and blocks of faculty housing with each other, which confirms the vision of a large Indian family.

Even in the classroom teaching, working in the library, laboratories have a stake in the way of teaching and personal interaction between students and teachers and among students themselves constitute a very important and vital means of generation and transfer of knowledge.

University of Delhi



Delhi University is the premier university of the country and is known for its high standards in teaching and research and attracts eminent faculty scientists. The university was started in 1922 as a unitary, teaching and residential university by an Act of the then Central Legislative Assembly. President of India is the visitor, the vice president is the adviser and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India is the Pro Chancellor of the University.

Amrita University



Amrita University is a multi-campus, multi-disciplinary research university that is accredited 'A' by NAAC and is ranked as one of the best research universities in India. University spreads across five branches in three states of India - Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, with the headquarters in Ettimadai, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

Viswanathan, and former member of parliament and minister in the government of the state of Tamil Nadu. In recognition of his service in India in providing education on a global level, he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from West Virginia University, USA. Sankar Viswanathan, Sqar Viswanathan and G.V. Selvam are the vice president; Dr. Anand A. Samuel is the vice president of the university, and Dr. V. Raju and Dr. Q. Narayanan are pro-vice-presidents.

Tamil University



Tamil University, founded in Thanjavur, by the Tamil Nadu government in the September 15, 1981 under the provisions of the Tamil NO.9 University Act of 1982, to promote the advancement of learning and research in the Tamil language, literature and culture. UGC, recognized by the University of New Delhi in the June 11, 1985. The idea of establishing an independent Tamil University in early 1925 by scientists aware of the Tamil community. This idea took concrete form only in 1981 under the leadership of  Tamilnadu Chief Minister, Dr.M.G.Ramachandran. He announced the Fifth World Tamil Conference held in Madurai, the University, exclusively for the promotion of the research at a high level in Tamilology held in Thanjavur, Thanjavur as it was an example of art and culture for centuries side by side. The university is enshrined with the motto “Ulluvathellam Uyarvullal,” which means “always think positively and only supreme thoughts.”

It is a unitary type of customized high research university, with the absence of its affiliated colleges. Initially, the university has focused solely on research. Later this university began to spread its wings to the issue of academic training for young people. In 1992, the university began conducting academic research by offering M.Phil. And doctoral programs in various disciplines.

After a decade, it has been expanded even further. In 2002, university has began organizing postgraduate courses in the humanities, and then in 2005, has been included PG courses in the sciences to meet the aspirations of the Tamil community. Certificate and diploma courses are also provided. Later through the Department of Distance Education, various certificates, which began diploma and degree courses. In this way, research and teaching has become an integral part of academic programs at the university.

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University




Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU) is a dynamic institution of higher education, a group in rural areas in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, with the spread of the campus of 550 acres. The university founded by the Tamil Nadu state government such as teaching-cum-university affiliation on September 7th, 1990 to meet the needs of the long-felt of the people of the three regions most southern state of Tamil Nadu which is, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, and Kanyakumari. It is named after the world famous Tamil poet, Professor P. Sundaram Pillai (1855-1897), author of the famous verse drama Manonmaniam. It is the poem that became “Tamil Thaai Vaalthu” a song sung an official protest in all functions in Tamil Nadu.

Madurai Kamaraj University



Madurai Kamaraj University, for its tireless over the past 48 years, a journey to overcome the native and exotic nature of difficulties along the way and passed through the accreditation tests to reach a position of excellence. University recognizes that the process of achieving excellence continues, and therefore, all efforts are underway to keep the momentum.

University came into existence by passing a bill in the Legislative Assembly of the state in the year 1965. Thus, it is legal University owned and funded by the Government of Tamil Nadu and the University Grants Commission. This university is a member of the Confederation of Indian universities and one of nine universities in India with state of the University, with the possibility of Excellence. Present Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Alagappa University and the University of Mother Teresa  are emitted from Madurai Kamaraj University. At present, its covers four areas of revenue from Madurai, Virudhunagar, Dindigul and Theni for its regular academic programme. Currently it holds a total of 77 famous sections and 20 schools. In addition to departments and schools, the university has 21 academic center and 21 units quasi-academic support. And more than 24 autonomous colleges, and 14 aided colleges, 33 self-financing colleges, 18 institutions approved, 4  evening colleges, 6 constituent colleges and one restaurant to the needs of the University College of Higher Education of the large number of students from rural and urban areas.

The Madurai Kamaraj University offers 41 post graduate, 35 M.Phil. and 17 diploma / P.G. Diploma / certificate courses in various departments. At present, 66 U.G. and 45 P.G. and it offers courses in affiliated colleges. At present 2428 students and researchers are on a roll. It is currently being implemented more than 163 projects for individual research out with spending exceeding 34 crore. The University has a modern central library with 3  lakhs  books 9,000 e-journals,  3,000 e-books, 55,000 reference and textbooks. One gigabyte per second Internet connection, INFONET center with 50 nodes and chapters smart school influenced ICT enabled education and educational technology.

It is believed Madurai Kamaraj University in strongly decentralized and participatory governance. Step insight, it has been granted the autonomy of academic and administrative to determine the schools. University established links with the surrounding community through various outreach activities. Annamalai University



University of satellites is a unitary, teaching and residential university. Founded by the generosity of philanthropist heart farsighted and noble patron of letters the late honourable Dr. Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar of Chettinad, KT, LL.D., D.Litt. Many colleges began, and eventually, the University in 1929. Since its inception, it has tried to gradually achieve the goals of the founder of the noble Pro-Chancellor. After him, and his son was brilliant, Padma Bhushan Dr. Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar of Chettinad, Pro Chancellor 1948-1984, and was studiously nurtured the growth and development of the university. The University has had the unique good fortune of having a succession of eminent Vice-Chancellors to guide its destinies. During the eighty-two-year-old recent university has grown rapidly and has strengthened its position as a unified and residential University with forty-nine sections of the study, and more than 3240 members of the teaching the body. Annamalainagar is already a busy and full-fledged University town, east of Chidambaram, the abode of Lord Nataraja. University campus, including colleges and hostels, playgrounds, occupies an area of about a thousand acres.
