Bharathiar
University was established in Coimbatore by the Government of Tamil Nadu in
February, 1982 under the provisions of Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Act No.
1 of 1982). Postgraduate Center of the
University of Madras, which functioned in Coimbatore before 1982 formed the
core of the University of Bharathiar. In May, 1985 University received
recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi for the
purpose of grants.
University
of toxicity of the great national poet Subramania dedicated Baharatne with the
slogan “Educate to Elevate”. At the university, and to harness every
possible effort to achieve his dream of making the educational institutions and
the Temple of learning. This is the goal of the university to participate in
the task of instilling the necessary knowledge, Creative skills, attitudes and
values among young people of the country to contribute more effectively in
order to create social, economic and secular ideal fair for our nation.
