The
Public petition dated 11/11/1839 initiated the establishment of the University
of Madras. It was in January 1840 with Mr.George Norton as its President, the
Council of the League had been formed. In 1854 after a lapse of 14 years, the
Government of India has developed a systematic educational policy for India and
this sequel to the 5TH September 1857 by an Act of the Legislative Council of
India, was established at the university. University organized in the model of
the University of London. Madras University is the mother of the ancient
universities, almost all of southern India. It may be limited to the State
University area of three districts of Tamil Nadu state in recent years. This is
the consequences of the establishment of many universities in the state and the
demarcation of the land the university. This university has been growing from
strength to strength with the expansion of educational and research activities.
University
imparts both in the Post and under graduate education through affiliated
institutions they are distributed to the regions of Chennai, Thiruvallur and
Kancheepuram. Apart from teaching, Shpae research activities in arts,
humanities, science, management and technology content of the Academic
University. There are a number of institutions of the University of Madras to
focus on research activities offeringe Ph.D., programs in the field of
specialization.
The
University also offers research teaching programs in four branches. University
departments are spread 68 of study and research over four campuses organized in
18 schools, each of which offers postgraduate courses in the specialty
concerned, part-time and full-doctoral diploma programs and certificate-time.
