Anna
University was established on September 4th, 1978 as a unitary type.
And it offers higher education in engineering science and technology, allied
with the relevant current and projected needs of the society. Besides promoting
research and disseminating knowledge gained from it, they strengthen the
cooperation between academia and industry. The university has formed by combining technical
integration of the two institutions known in the city of Madras.
- College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG)(1794)
- Madras Institute of Technology, Chrompet (MIT)(1949) and three Technological Departments of the University of Madras.
- Alagappa College of Technology (ACT)(1944)
- School of Architecture and Planning (SAP)(1957)
Located
in the southern part of the city of Madras (Chennai), the main campus of the
University extends over 100 hectares of land adjacent to the river monasteries
in the north and the south Raj Bhavan. The Madras Institute of Technology in
Chrompet form of the second campus of
the University, which runs on 20 hectares. Both campuses have a variety of
buildings that serve the different needs of the university community. The third campus is spread over 80
hectares in Taramani near Instronic campus, Adyar. Laboratory biological
processes donated by SPIC at the present time in this campus and a few of the
most advanced research centers located, like National Institute of Fashion
Technology (NIFT), Sugar Research Institute, Mechatronics Institute,
Entreprenuership Development Park, and will also includes a conference center
there in the future.
Since
December 2001, it has become a large, well-known of the University, after being
brought into the ranks of about 426 self-financing engineering colleges six
government colleges and three engineering colleges with the help of the
government are located in different areas of the state of Tamil Nadu.
